RBOA 2012 MEETING SCHEDULE
SPRING MEETING
Join us in historic Kingston Ontario for the RBOA Spring Meeting, May 11-13, 2012. At the gateway to the 1000 Islands and the UNESCO designated Rideau Canal, Kingston is a city rich in history, culture, and critically acclaimed attractions as well as being the home of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. ACCOMMODATIONS have been arranged at the Holiday Inn Waterfront Hotel, 2 Princess Street, for Friday and Saturday night. A block of 10 guest rooms, 5 traditional with two double beds and 5 king rooms, at a rate of $144.95, have been blocked for the weekend. Directions: The restaurant is located at 68 Princess Street, a one block walk north of the hotel.
Saturday morning - Tour 1 - Tour of MetalCraft Marine, manufacturer of aluminum high speed fire boats, patrol boats, work boats,barges, emergency vessels, and rigid inflatable boats. The company has just delivered it's first diesel electric patrol boat to the Annapolis Harbourmaster and has been awarded the prestigious "Boat of the Year" award from Workboat Magazine. MetalCraft boats are delivered across the world. The US arm of the company is located in Cape Vincent NY. Everyone should be at MetalCraft by 8:45 a.m. so our tour can get underway at 9 a.m. For information on MetalCraft Marine clickHERE.
Directions: MetalCraft Marine is at 347 Wellington Street. Travel two blocks up Princess Street from the hotel, turn right on Wellington Street. MetalCraft is in the large blue buildings on the right side of Wellington Street just past the large Ontario government. building. The large marina
crane is a good landmark. There is parking in the lot adjacent to the dry dock.
Saturday morning - Tour 2 - The Marine Museum of the Great Lakes located at the only federally built dry dock on the Great Lakes and which houses the original pumping station and steam engines built in 1891. The Museum Ship Alexander Henry, housed in the dry dock, was built in 1959. A former buoy tender and light icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard, the Alexander Henry is a fine example of shipbuilding from the last century. With its twenty ton crane, block and tackle, hydraulic ram and other functional machinery, visitors can learn first hand about this purpose built structure and about ice breaking in Canadian waters. It can also be toured (weather permitting).
Everyone should be at the museum by 10:30 a.m., the time booked for our tour.
Special tour admission is $5.00 and for seniors, $4.50; both plus 13% HST.

Directions: The museum is located at 55 Ontario Street, about an eight to 10 minute walk from the hotel heading west along Ontario Street.
Saturday afternoon - Tour of The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum that holds the most extensive, nationally significant collection of woodworking tools in Canada and there are interactive displays available.
Everyone should be on site at the museum by 1:30 p.m., the time booked for our tour. Admission is $5.00 or $4.25 for seniors, plus 13% HST. Click

Directions: The museum is located at 2993 Highway 2 East. Take Ontario Street east from the hotel and go across the LaSalle Causeway. Follow this road, now Highway 2, for 16 km. The Museum is located on your right, 1 km past the intersection with Joyceville Road.
Saturday night dinner and business meeting - Meet at 6:30 p.m. in the private dining room at the River Mill Restaurant, located on the shores of the Cataraqui River, occupying the waterside length of the 125-year-old, award-winning Woolen Mill Building.
Dinner cost is $35 per person, plus 13%HST.

Directions: From the hotel travel north on Princess Street, turn right onto Montreal Street, turn right onto Cataraqui Street. The restaurant is on the right at 2 Cataraqui Street.
Sunday morning - Those who have the time can get together for breakfast at the hotel prior to heading on their way to further explore the city of Kingston and environs or head home.
Getting To Kingston: From upper state New York take the I-81 to the Thousand Islands Bridge to cross the border into Canada. Upon leaving Canadian customs, take the Thousand Islands Parkway West that will give you a scenic drive along the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River toward Gananoque. At the end of the Parkway you can connect with Provincial Highway 401 West.
Canadian visitors can take Provincial Highway 401, east or west, depending on the direction you are coming from in relation to Kingston.
Getting to the Holiday Inn: Take the Division Street/County Road 10 exit (Exit 617) off Provincial Highway 401 toward Kingston and Westport. Turn right on Division Street if you are coming from the west on the 401 or left if you are coming from the east. Turn left onto Princess Street (Provincial Route 2E) and continue to follow Princess Street until you reach the hotel. The entrance is just south of Ontario Street, the main east west thoroughfare along Kingston's downtown waterfront.
ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL RENDEZVOUS
Fairport , NY on the Erie Canal will be the site of the 2012 Annual Meeting and Rendezvous on July 14 and 15. Fairport is an outstanding "Canal Town" offering many attractions, good accommodations, and an excellent facility for boaters. Check them out on the web at their site for the
